Sanctuary Life

The Sanctuary sits peacefully at the tip of the San Sebastian Peninsula. It is a conservation-focused initiative located in the coastal town of Vilanculos, Mozambique. Its primary purpose is to protect and preserve the rich biodiversity of the region, particularly its marine life and terrestrial ecosystems. Vilanculos is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and proximity to the Bazaruto Archipelago, making it an ideal location for conservation efforts. The Sanctuary aims to support sustainable tourism and community development while ensuring the long-term health of the local environment.https://mozsanctuary.com/

The Dugong

The elusive and critically endangered dugong finds shelter in The Sanctuary’s protected waters. The Marine Protected Areas of The Sanctuary have shown remarkably rapid increases in fish numbers, and an impressive boost in species diversity has been observed. Large female fish, critically important to breeding, find protection among the artificial reefs where they can reproduce undisturbed.
